Oh what a night!

MERGE was at the WA State Architecture Awards on Thursday 3rd July filming guests interacting with the installation in the Crown Grand Ballroom foyer. For a second year, the Australian Institute of Architects Western Australian Chapter has run an installation competition. This year’s installation by was modelled on architect and engineer Richard Buckminster Fuller’s 1960s ‘Tensegrity’ geodesic domes. The team constructed a series of sculptural units for the Crown Grand Ballroom foyer, along with miniatures for each table.

Australian presenter Fenella Kernebone was also present to host the Awards. You may recognize her from ABC’s Artscape and Triple J’s Sunday night eclectic mix The Soundlab. I couldn’t resist getting a fan girl photo!

The next step is to expand my portfolio to some of the other products available on this artists’ promo site.

Breaking the silence

Can’t believe it’s already March! This year is whizzing by! I hope you haven’t been fooled by my recent radio silence, for the lack of posts in no way reflects lack of activity. Keep an eye out on the ‘Upcoming Projects’ tab and future posts.

For now, I leave you with a snap of a secret rainbow I spotted on my lunch break today. It was a fleeting burst of colour dancing above a concrete jungle. A reminder to always look beyond your immediate surroundings and appreciate the small pleasures in everyday life.

My Best Friend’s Wedding

My friends Kiky and Dipo pledged their lives to each other in traditional Indonesian fashion. The two day four part ceremony took place in Kiky’s hometown Makassar, South Sulawesi. Held at her parents home and The Grand Clarion Hotel (Makassar’s finest), their wedding was the most extravagant thing I have ever witnessed. The intricacies of the clothing, decorations and food was astounding! And the shear size of the event was difficult to comprehend, with 4000 guests attending the reception!
