Parallel Nippon – an exhibition I liked

undefined

“Parallel Nippon contains 100+ large-scale photo panels of landmark designs, architectural models and video footage. The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections: Urban, Life, Culture and Living, a cross-sectional view of Japanese society. These areas represent the revolutionary, innovative and progressive architectural achievements realised not only in Japan but across the world as projects of Japanese architects.” http://www.perth.au.emb-japan.go.jp/en/top_whatsnew/2013parallel_nippon.html

I thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon drooling over architectural models and planning a Japanese architectural travel itinerary with equally enthusiastic architect friends. Continue reading “Parallel Nippon – an exhibition I liked”

Did everyone else really enjoy Open House Perth? I had a great weekend, visiting different buildings and exploring parts of the city. It was wonderful to see so many members of the public out and about, checking out different places too. And this was in bad weather – imagine how many would have been out in fine weather? All the volunteers at all the places we went to were great, and seemed to get everyone through easily and happily, even when getting close to the end of the day on Sunday, when I’m sure everyone must have been exhausted. Really great event. My only complaint maybe that I didn’t have time to see everything! But at least I have a few to check out next year. Some of my pics from the weekend:

Perth’s first rooftop cinema!

“Melbourne’s had one for years, and their weather is entirely tragic. With the best balmy summer nights in Australia, we’re making the most of it. We’ve craned a whole oasis environment onto the roof, complete with palm trees, astro turf, a series of vintage caravans from which food and drinks are served, 250 lovely black and white stripey beach chairs to lounge in, and hundreds of pink flamingoes for fun. Think retro Miami poolside mini-golf trashy with a dash of Hollywood glitz.” Continue reading “Perth’s first rooftop cinema!”

Watch This Space

I am helping a friend with an upcoming exhibition that will showcase her PhD research. Just viewed some of the work for the first time and I must say, I was already convinced but now I am blown away! I haven’t been “moved” like this in a while. The research involves postcards and cities across the globe. AMAZING! This is all I can tell you for now so watch this space!

TWELVE HOURS AT A BAR 1:1 design-build-enjoy

Yesterday was a fun day. I built a bar. That’s right, I built a functional beverage serving bar for Perth’s latest creative installation. 1:1 is a project that ‘aims to create a collaboration between architecture students and professionals as a way of building relationships and forming a creative discourse’. Check out the time lapse video from 1:1 in Sydney last year.
